Scripture Focus:
Romans 9:20-21
On the contrary, who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? Will what is formed say to the one who formed it, “Why did you make me like this?” Or has the potter no right over the clay, to make from the same lump one piece of pottery for honor and another for dishonor?
Thought For The Day:
In Romans 9:20-21, we are reminded of a profound truth: God is the Potter, and we are the clay. This imagery is both humbling and empowering. As the Potter, God is sovereign, shaping and molding us with purpose and precision. As clay, we are in His hands—pliable, receptive, and dependent on His guidance. Not only is God the Potter, but He is also the Creator.
Everything we are, everything we will become, is the result of His craftsmanship. We are not self-made; we are created beings, intricately designed by the One who knows us better than we know ourselves. This truth calls us to surrender—to lay down our self-made plans and ambitions and trust in the design God has for our lives. Furthermore, God is the Author of our stories. Every chapter of our lives is written by Him with purpose, even the ones that seem painful or confusing. Sometimes we may try to take the pen from His hand, believing we can craft a better story, but this only leads to anxiety, fear, and worry. When we forget that
God is in control, we place a weight on our shoulders that was never meant to be carried. We pretend to be more than we are and deceive ourselves into thinking we are the authors of our own fate. When we fall into the trap of thinking we are in control, we invite worry, fear, and anxiety to flood our hearts. We begin to believe that everything depends on us, and that’s a burden we are not meant to bear. But when we remember that God is God, and we are not, we find rest for our souls. We can confess today that: God is in control—no situation escapes His notice.
God is actively at work in every circumstance, even when we can’t see it. God is God—He is sovereign, wise, and loving, and His plans for us are far better than our own. Take heart in the knowledge that we are the clay, and God is the Master Potter. He knows exactly what He is doing with our lives, shaping us into vessels for His glory. And while we may not understand every twist and turn in our story, we can trust that the Author is writing something beautiful. Today, rest in this truth: God is the Potter, the Creator, and the Author. We are the clay, the creation, and our stories are still being written—by the One who knows the end from the beginning.
